House of Judah
Define
- Initially describes the members of the tribe of Jacob's son, Judah
- The men of the town of Judah anointed David as King over the House of Judah 2 Sam-02
- Then after the death of Solomon, referred to the Southern Kingdom, which was made up of ten tribes: Judah, Benjamin, and Levi. They chose to followed Rehoboam, son of Solomon, rightful heir to thrown. Eventually captured by Assyrians. 1 Kings-12
- Southern Tribes of Israel (the country) became known as ""The Jews"" (2 Kings 14, 16)
- Eventually, the term "House of Israel" diminishes in reference to the northern kingdom as a distinct entity. The term "Jew," derived from "Judah," becomes more prominent.
